Day 24, Monday, July 31, 2006
35 this morning in Tok and 54 now at 10:30 am. Cloudy but no rain - yet. It's in the forecast. Nothing to do here so were heading out once again and going into Fairbanks to have a look around before heading down to Denali, the real destination of our trip. Hope to have cell phone service in Fairbanks and ability to upload pictures. Got to Fairbanks, 216 miles and gas at $2.92. Began to get spotty cell phone service about 100 miles out of Fairbanks and great service in town. Along the way we saw the "pipeline" and reached the official end of the Alaska Highway at Delta Junction, 1422 miles from Dawson Creek (the start of the ALCAN and the place where the window blew out). The campground advertised wi-fi but could not get on. Mgt. would do nothing about it. No one could get on. So, pictures still could not be uploaded. Fairbanks is a pretty big town now, but not much here for us. Going to the University of Alaska Museum tomorrow before leaving. We really miss camping in the state parks but not many of them around here and to keep this blog current we need the internet access provided by commercial campgrounds. We are about to go back to the parks and update the blog when we can. We're missing too much trying to stay "in-touch".
Beautiful Tok, Alaska
