Day 33, Wednesday, August 9, 2006

Woke up to a temperature of 52 and clear/cloudy skys. The good part was the clear view of the sunrise lighting of McKinley. The bad part was we could see the rain clouds moving in from the South and knew it was going to ruin our chance for a flightseeing tour. However, it took a good 2 hours for the clouds to obscure McKinley. Lots of great pictures. The rain came and it is still raining now at 10:00 pm. We are in Talkeetna where we were to catch our flight out of and staying in an RV Park. Typical Alaskan RV Park - dirt, mud, rocks, etc., but good internet and the area has cell phone service. Also, we can walk to town. Re-booked our flight for tomorrow morning and hope the weather clears for us. Went to a "salmon bake" restaurant for a fantastic meal in a fantastic setting (right on the street in the open air under a tent to keep the rain off). They provided blankets to keep warm while eating and the restroom (only one) was an outhouse. What an experience. Found a few fresh groceries today but no meat and no fish. As ususal, alcohol no problem. Complained to a "local" about the lack of fresh fish and he gave us his phone number and said if we stayed another night he would catch us some fresh salmon tomorrow. I think we will stay! Ellen is doing laundry and the dogs are sleeping and it is still raining and I am bloging. Still can't upload pictures and I have so many to share. I'll keep trying. If you see none, please look back on these posts because I will eventually be able to get them posted and do so by going back to the days we took them and add them to the proper date. Gas today $2.99 - YES! Current temperature 59.

Sunup on McKinley (our view out the front of the motorhome)

Clouds at various elevations drifting past McKinley. The rain is coming in from the left.

It's hard to stop taking pictures!
