Day 14, Friday, July 21, 2006
55 early this morning at the Hinton KOK and presently 75 at 8:45 am. Laundry today at camp then into Hinton for food, alcohol, and gas. Left Hinton at 2:00 pm on our way to Dawson Creek. This 290 mile trip to the start of the Alaskan Highway is said to be a scenic route, but not much to see but pine trees. No mountains here or much of anything for that matter. We got spoiled by the Banff and Jasper National Parks. Gas today was only $3.83. Arrived at our campground in Dawson Creek at 7:30 pm. Not very pretty! Everything up here is pretty much dirt, dust, no shade, and very crammed together (at the camp ground). The city itself is like any other place - gas stations, banks, and fast food places on every corner. Record high temperature here today - almost 95 (some said 100). One hour before arriving here the driver side door glass exploded in on me (Jim) and in just a second went from door glass to open window. Wow! What a shock! But we got to the side of the road safely no one was injured. Cleaned up the mess and drove on. No idea what caused it. Must have been a stone thrown up by passing car but would not expect such a stone to hit the side of the motorhome so hard that it would shatter the door glass. Windshield yes, but the side window? Hope to get it replaced tomorrow, Saturday, but fear being the weekend we may get stuck here for 3 more days. Sun comes up around 4:30 am and does not set until 11:30 am. Very hard to go to bed with the sun shining - so we don't. High speed internet here so we plan to go back to previous posts and add pictures. Check it out!
We finally made it.
My door glass did not!
