Day 12, Wednesday, July 19, 2006

Down to 37 last night but we woke up to clear blue sky and warm temperature. Headed to the Columbia Icefield in Jasper National Park and took a tundra buggy up onto the glacier. It was a great trip and very cold up there.
Drove on to Jasper and stayed in Whistlers Campground. No facilities, but lots of elk right in our campground. Counted at least 25 and as close as 10 feet away at times. Dogs don’t quite know what to think.
Only drove 140 miles today and gas was, are you ready, $4.58!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It stays light out until about 11:00 pm. It’s 9:45 pm now and we are outside with the computer typing and watching elk graze.
No fast internet connection yet so no pictures until we find one. Hope to find one in Jasper or at a KOA just north of town.
Next up is on to Dawson Creek, the start of the Alaskan Highway.

Elk in our camp ground at Whistlers park just outside of Jasper.

On the glacier after a 1/2 hour "tundra buggy" ride up.

Another glacier view. Not the glacier we went out on, but just one of many along the Icefields Parkway connecting Banff and Jasper in the Canadian Rockey Mountains.

Waiting at the visitors center for the ride up the glacier in the background.
