Day 55, Thursday, August 31, 2006

52 again in Valdez this morning. It's still raining! Forecast is for at least 2 or 3 more days of rain. We're leaving! Drove 225 miles to Tok, Ak today. It's the only way in and out of Alaska by vehicle. So most of the trip was north and not south towards the lower 48. But the rain stopped and the sun came out for a while giving us a nice, dry evening at the campground. The next destination is Skagway, Ak with an Alaskan Ferry side trip to Haines, Ak. to see bald eagles. Then we'll travel way down to Homer, BC with a side trip to Hyder, Ak to see Black Bears. After that, were done! We plan to stop in Glacier National Park on the way home and maybe take a longer Southerly route home. We really want some warm and sunny weather and will do what we can to find some. The season is starting to change up here and Fall lasts only 7-10 days. Colors are changing and it really is beautiful but the rain prevented good pictures as we came out of the mountains. Here in Tok and for a good amount of the trip back to the States the scenery will not be so spectacular except for the side trips to Skagway, Haines, Homer, and Hyder. Good DSL connection here at the Tok R.V. Park so I will try to add pictures in the morning.

Ladies at Eagles Rest rv park in Valdez cleaning their daily catch - they gave us one whole side to cook for dinner. Nothing like it being caught and cooked the same day.

Will at the dinner table waiting for his share

The ladies limit of six each for the day - we ate one of them
