Day 50, Saturday, August 26, 2006

48 this morning at the Anchorage R. V. Park. No rain last night or this morning. How nice! It has started to sprinkle a little but don't expect much. The weather looks good up around McKinley for this afternoon and we have booked a 3 hr flightseeing trip for 5:00 pm. Sure hope to get this one in so we can get on down the road to Valdez. We will update with flight information and pictures later tonight. Remember to click on any picture to enlarge, and click on the "comment" at the top of every page to leave us a note, message, or how about a comment. Also, some duplicate pictures have been removed and some out of sync pages were re-aligned. Some additional pictures were also added going back to our stay in Kenai at the Beluga Lookout - most are additional Fjords Cruise and Flightseeing over Homer. We finally got our McKinley Flightsee. A 3 hour flight from Anchorage up to McKinley. The weather was not perfect but not too bad. We got to see the mountain on numerous occasions but the pilot had to keep re-positioning us as the clouds really come and go very fast up there. The pictures were taken from 10,000 feet and the top of McKinley is 20,000 feet. So keep that in mind while looking at them - the summit was almost two miles higher up. We had been trying to get the tour that goes up over the summit, but they don't have a plane capable of doing that here in Anchorage. Talkeetna, 100 miles north, has one but it was too far to drive back. That's where we tried four days in a row to get a flight but got rained out every day. Plus there is never a gaurantee any one flight will "go" as constant weather changes on the mountain rule all flights so we could have made the 200 mile roundtrip and not even get to go. Enjoy the pictures.
