Day 48, Thursday, August 24, 2006

52 this morning in Homer, Ak on the Homer Spit. It started to rain late last night and continues today. In fact, it rained all day and night.

Kathy and Bruce left this morning after a 5 day visit. The time sure went fast but we kept busy and had a good time. We had great weather for two of their five days and just bothersome weather the other three as the rain would come and go, but we were not motor home bound and got out to do things or enjoy the time around a fire at camp. Had they stayed for today, however, it would have been miserable because the rain was hard and never stopped.

We were going to stay another day or two if the weather stayed clear and take a water taxi across the Inlet to hike in a National Park one day, and then go halibut fishing the next. But the rain falling and a forecast of days of it yet to come changed our minds and we left Homer heading to Anchorage and Eastward on our way home.

Spent an hour and a half getting window repaired with a temporary "fix" of plexiglass and caulk. Safety glass replacement would have taken weeks - so they said. About 100 miles north of Homer there was a sudden "woosh" and the window was gone! So much for the "fix". Got into an RV park in Anchorage and grey taped a piece of plexiglass to the outside of the motor home to get through the night. Will call for another "fix" in the morning here in Anchorage and try to get a refund from the Homer glass shop without a hassle and credit card protest.

Despite all the claims of "high-speed" internet from all the recent RV parks, none have allowed me to add pictures to the blog. I'm trying, and I know the pictures are what everyone wants. It takes a lot of time to upload them even with a fast connection and I'm getting concerned about the time it will take to add them all when I do find the proper internet access. But I will get them loaded eventually. This park's internet is giving me problems tonight, I'll try again in the morning.
